Project 365 Update Day 68 to Day 80

Yes, I’m still alive, just extremely busy. Between work, life and spending time demoing the new Adobe Lightroom 4 (which I’ll post more about here very soon), I’ve been lax in posting to this blog. Well, time to catchup a bit. Here are the last 10 days or so of my project 365 images from newest to oldest. I should be back on track with more regular posting here very soon.

Pink Hyacinth

The Hyacinth’s are blooming:

Pink Hyacinth

This is one of the many Hyacinth plants that are in our front yard. Each year a few more pop up. I think they spread via root bulbs (or something like that). They are a nice addition to all of the pine straw we have and help to brighten things up a bit.

On a separate note, I’m 60 days into my project 365 and so far I’ve managed to post a different photograph each day. I feel pretty good about my chances of completing this so stay tuned and we’ll see if I can keep this thing going!

Happy Leap Day!

The First Daffodils Of Spring

I’ve been waiting a few days to take this Photograph:

The First Daffodils Of Spring

We’ve had a warmer Winter than normal here. That means the flowers will bloom a little earlier. The past week or so has really sparked some growth in the early rising plants in our yard. The Daffodils are usually the first to bloom, typically around the end of February. This year everything seems to be about 2-3 weeks early. Over the weekend I noticed these particular flowers were just about ready to bloom. This morning when I left for work they were almost open, but not quite. As I arrived home in the late afternoon I noticed they were blooming but starting to droop over in the fading daylight.

I grabbed my camera, crouched down real low in the pine straw, and snapped this photograph.

I guess Spring is on its way and with it all of the blooming flowers, trees and plants…and the pollen that goes with it.

Vacation Photographs: Seattle, Labor Day 2001

I think it’s neat how you can look at old vacation photographs and vividly remember everything about the trip. It s a rainy and wet Labor Day 2011 here in Georgia. Tropical Storm Lee is finally bringing us some much needed rain. That got me thinking about our vacation to Seattle back in 2001. It was a little rainy and wet that weekend as well. We arrived there over the Labor Day weekend and it was our 1st time in the area. We spent a couple of days in the city then drove out to the Olympic Peninsula for a few days then came back to Seattle to watch a Mariners game and then fly back to Chicago.  We spent the first day wandering around the city, particularly Pike Place Market. We got there early, right after they opened in fact. There were lots of photo opportunities to be had. So many colors, sights and sounds. I had my little Olympus 3 megapixel camera with me and took a lot of pictures, some which actually came out pretty good.

Here is a picture from Monday, September 3rd 2001 (Labor Day). I took it in the market at one of the many flower stands:

This was one of the better photos I took that day. This bouquet was right in the front of a small flower stand. The proprietor had just set the flowers out and they were so colorful that my eye was immediately drawn to them. I think the quality is pretty good. I had the camera on “program” mode (hover over the image to see the EXIF information). I still enjoy looking at it because it brings back memories of that misty day in Seattle.

What were you doing 10 years ago today and did you take any pictures? Let us know about it in the comments.
